Multnomah County Online Voters' Guide
May 2008 Primary Election

METRO - Council District 2

Carlotta Collette

CARLOTTA COLLETTE

OCCUPATION: Metro Councilor

OCCUPATIONAL BACKGROUND: Milwaukie city councilor; Collette Communications; Northwest Power Planning Council (1984-1998); Rain Magazine editor (1979-1983)

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: Marylhurst College, BA

PRIOR GOVERNMENTAL EXPERIENCE: Milwaukie City Council, Design Landmarks Commission, Economic Development Committee; Clackamas County Coordinating Committee (co-chair 2007); Clackamas County College Board of Education (vice-chair 2007/2008); Regional Water Providers Consortium (Board 2005-2007); County Blue Ribbon Health Care Committee (current); Clackamas County Business Alliance Board (current)

As a Metro Councilor I am deeply committed to ensuring that our region is sustainable. This means:

  • Creating livable communities now and for the future
  • Protecting farmland, habitat and open spaces
  • Securing family wage jobs and a diversity of educational opportunities
  • Improving roads and transportation choices for safe, efficient access to work and play

I have more than 30 years experience addressing infrastructure, livability and natural resource issues. My priority is engaging our communities in the decision making.

  • As Milwaukie city councilor, I helped guide the community through controversial proposals including light rail and downtown redevelopment
  • As co-chair of the County Coordinating Committee I helped build cross-jurisdictional cooperation on transportation and land-use priorities
  • As vice-chair of Clackamas Community College, I called for the Harmony Unified Vision, widely viewed as a model of stakeholder collaboration
  • At Metro I am focusing on regional infrastructure, new tools to help manage growth, and connecting green spaces and trails.

The Oregonian endorsed my Metro appointment because of my “stronger record in the trenches of local politics,” ( 11/6/07 ).

Representative Carolyn Tomei wrote: “Carlotta's intelligence, hard work, openness, trustworthiness and dedication mark her as a true leader.”

I'm endorsed by:
Oregon League of Conservation Voters
State Senator Kate Brown
Carolyn Tomei, State Representative
Lynn Peterson, Chair Clackamas County Commission
County Commissioner Martha Schrader
Metro Council President David Bragdon
Former Metro Councilor Brian Newman
Mike Houck, Urban Park and Greenspace Advocate
Alice Norris, Mayor of Oregon City
Charlotte Lehan, Mayor of Wilsonville
