FRED STEWART

OCCUPATIONAL BACKGROUND: US Marine; Baker (Franz Bakery); Real Estate Broker (Stewart Group Realty); Tavern Owner; Banker

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: Binnsmead Middle School; Washington/Monroe High School; Cleveland High School; Portland Community College (Cascade Campus); Portland State University; Hundreds of hours of Real Estate and Banking courses

PRIOR GOVERNMENTAL EXPERIENCE: US Marines, 1983-1989; King Neighborhood Association (President) 1990-1999; Police Bureau Budget Advisory Committee Member 1993-1997; Police Internal Investigations Action Committee 1994-1996; METRO Future Vision Committee 1993-1995; North/South Light Rail Committee 1994; Sensible Transportation Options for People 1993-1996

My campaign is about change and what is good about the City of Portland. I celebrate the diversity that makes Portland the special place that it is.

Housing:
I will ensure that Portland follows through on its long term commitments to hard working, low income members of our city who need high quality housing opportunities.

Business and Employment:
The City and the business community need each other as partners, to create family wage jobs to see us through the rough days that lie ahead. I will search for opportunities to apply the City of Portland's resources to support our small business partners.

Prioritization:
The city needs a comprehensive framework of core values and priorities to guide planning and budget decisions so that all decisions are made in a context that reflects a broad consensus.

Education:
Stable housing, safe routes to and from schools, safe parks and community centers and after school programs are essential to the success of our schools and the students who attend them. The City has an essential role to play in closing the “achievement gap” by closing the after-school gap.

I ask for your vote.

Throughout my adult life I have worked to build community and to help others contribute to the greater good. My mission as a City Commissioner will be no different.
