MULTNOMAH COUNTY - County Commissioner, District 3 |
![]() |
ROY BURKETT |
OCCUPATION: Manufacturing Technician, Intel OCCUPATIONAL BACKGROUND: Retail, Industrial, Direct Sales; Electronics and Laser Technician; Design Engineer; Field Service; Pastor EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: BA, California Baptist University; BSEE, Portland State University. PRIOR GOVERNMENTAL EXPERIENCE: Citizen Advocate in Salem and Washington DC Now is the time to remember good ideals and develop fresh ideas. Government is but one expression of who we are. We should be free to establish priorities and reach goals through voluntary means, as caring individuals and families working together with friends and neighbors, and through churches, service clubs, and nonprofits. The greatest asset of this county is the good people who live here. We are all part of building a better future for ourselves and generations to come. Now is the time to remember: public safety is Priority #1 for county government. Open Wapato Prison – Completed in 2004 at a cost of $60 million, it sits vacant due to poor planning, misplaced priorities, and lack of political will. Wapato needs to be opened - with an adequate, ongoing operating budget. I will provide leadership to get it done. Now is the time to rally Americans to a renewal of personal responsibility. Education – Every family wants their children to receive a quality education. A healthy free society is only possible with a well-educated citizenry. There have been too many distractions from providing quality education for every child, but no excuse is acceptable. Multnomah County needs to be a place where options abound, and your decisions about the education of your children can be exciting and positive. Now is the time to elect a commissioner that is committed to effective, responsible solutions. Economic Growth – A healthy economy starts with hardworking citizens. High taxes and stifling regulations are forcing healthy families and successful businesses out of our county, diminishing our communities. The Business Income Tax needs to be reduced to match other metropolitan areas and never again applied retroactively. Now is the time to elect Roy Burkett as County Commissioner.
